Grief Recovery Webinar

What is Grief Recovery?

Grief recovery is the act of acknowledging your loss and dealing with it in a healthy manner, and then feeling as though you’ve moved beyond it. This doesn’t mean pushing it to the wayside and never recognizing your loss again, it simply means that you’ve gotten over the hump of grieving and are beginning to feel more like yourself.

Grief is a part of life, and it’s something that we all will inevitably experience. As an advanced grief recovery specialist, one of passions in life is to give people the tools and support they need to work through the pain that comes with major life loss. I created Lighting the Way because I want to show people that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t want you to lose a part of yourself due to loss, but instead take those emotions and use them as inspiration to live every day to the fullest.

Types of Loss

A lot of people think that you can only grieve if you’ve experienced a death, but that’s not true. There are many 40 types of loss that people can encounter, and they are all valid. Some types of loss include:

Pet Loss

The bond that we form with animals can run deep, and can make the loss of them very difficult to endure. This may come through death, running away, needing to surrender your animal due to financial stability or having to move away from your pet.

Postpartum

There are so many emotions and feelings running through your body after having a child, and sometimes that includes the feeling of losing your identity and the life you had before having a baby.

Childhood Losses

It’s extremely common that when a child experiences emotional, physical or sexual abuse; that that child doesn’t properly deal with the trauma that accompanies that experience. Neglecting to find an emotional release from such traumatic memories can have a huge influence in your adult life.

Divorce

Divorce can be extremely tricky because even though a physical relationship has ended, that doesn’t mean that there’s not an emotional relationship. Until you process the emotional loss of a divorce, it will most likely have an affect on your future relationships.

Career Changes

Whether you planned the career change or not, it’s very common to feel as if you’re giving up on your hopes and expectations. Retirement is also a type of loss, and can prove to be difficult for someone to overcome when they’ve gone through so much of life and have only known life while working.

Loss of Financial Security

Losing financial stability has the power to cause feelings of grief and guilt. Not only is it a financial loss, but it also a significant emotional loss that you may find difficult to navigate.

Loss of Health

Losing your health not only causes a physical change, but also has the ability to create an immense emotional change. Whether it’s being so sick you become bed-ridden, or forming a condition which decreases your physical abilities, losing control of your body is an extreme change to go through.

Illness of a Loved One

Watching someone who you care so much about deal with a serious illness is extremely difficult and heart-breaking. It’s extremely common to feel as though you’re losing the person you once knew

Myths About Grieving

The Grief Recovery Method was developed by John James in an effort to help guide people through loss. I use this method to help people deal with life’s deepest heartbreaks. The focus of the Grief Recovery Method is to help people move beyond the pain caused by grief. It’s also evidence based and proven to help grievers deal with emotional pain. The method is the only grief support program to receive recognition of being evidence based.
